One simple tap connects your physical product to your digital world.
Step 1
Personalize
Choose a product, then add the name, address or business to print and, for NFC products, the https link the chip should open. Longer or special text gets an emailed proof first.
Step 2
Tap
Hold the top of an iPhone, or the upper back of an Android phone, near the tap spot. Most recent phones offer to open the link, with no app to install.
iPhone XS and newer read NFC links with the screen on: tap the notification to open. Android phones need NFC on and the screen unlocked. Thick or metal cases can block NFC. Older phones can use a free NFC reader app.
Step 3 · optional
Get NFC Tools
Only if you want to change where the tap goes. A free NFC writing app such as NFC Tools can write a new link to an unlocked chip. You don't need it to open a link.
NFC Tools is a third-party app by wakdev, not made by Tap & Key. Writing needs an iPhone 7 or newer, or an Android phone with NFC.
Step 4 · optional
Change your link
Write a new https link to the chip with the app, check it, and the next tap opens the new page. Links are changed on your phone; our website doesn't change them.
How to write and check a link with NFC Tools
- Open NFC Tools and go to Write.
- Add a record, choose URL, and paste your new link, starting with https://.
- Tap Write, then hold your phone on the tap spot until it confirms.
- Go to Read and tap the spot again to check the new link.
- Open the link once on another phone to be sure.
Keep links short, under about 120 characters. Never use Lock: a locked chip can't be changed again. We're still testing rewrites through our finished prints, so message us before your first rewrite and we'll help. App menus can change between versions.
Good to know
- Opening a link needs no app on iPhone XS and newer or on most NFC-enabled Android phones. Writing a new link needs an app.
- Each chip stores one short web link, so shorter links work best. The chip itself has no battery and nothing to charge.
- Chips ship unlocked so you can change the link. On a public counter, anyone with an NFC app could rewrite one too, so check public stands now and then. An app password can deter changes.
- Not every piece includes NFC. Each product page shows whether it includes a chip.
- The phone on this page is a simulation. Real screens differ by phone and software version.

Not to open the link on most recent phones. iPhone XS and newer read NFC links with the screen on: tap the notification that appears. NFC-enabled Android phones read them with NFC turned on and the screen unlocked. An app is only needed to write a new link.
Does every product include NFC?
No. The Tap-to-Review Counter Stand includes a programmed NFC chip. The SOLD Phone Stand is a personalized phone stand with no chip. Each product page shows its NFC status.
Can I change the link later?
The chips ship unlocked, so a free app such as NFC Tools can write a new link (see How it works on our home page). We are still confirming that rewriting works through each finished print, so message us before you rewrite and we'll help. We don't lock chips unless you ask.
What if a phone can't tap?
Older phones can read the chip with a free NFC reader app. If a customer's phone has no NFC at all, message us and we'll suggest an option.
Where do I hold the phone?
Hold the top edge of an iPhone, or the upper back of most Android phones, near the tap spot for a second. Thick, metal or magnetic cases can block NFC; if nothing happens, try without the case.
What can the chip open?
One https link: a contact card, website, Instagram, listing page, portfolio or Google review page. Shorter links are best.
How long does it take?
Each piece is printed to order and ships within 3 business days (counted from your approval when a proof is needed). Fast shipping is $9.99 and arrives 3–6 business days after it ships; Economy is $6.99 (free on orders of $70+) and arrives in about 1–2 weeks.
What if it arrives damaged or the chip doesn't read?
Message us with a photo and we'll make it right.
Can I return it?
Because each piece is personalized, we can't accept change-of-mind returns. Anything wrong with it, we make right.
Do you take bulk or custom orders?
Yes. Use the Design Studio on our home page or email us. We'll send a proof and a quote before anything prints.
Are these photos of the products?
Product photos show real printed samples; other images are labeled digital concept or 3D renderings. Every piece is 3D printed to order, so layer texture and color can vary slightly.
